When running OM4 in the Windows 95/98 environment, it is still essential to provide a sufficiently large conventional memory
area for the program to run.
1.Be sure that you are running the extended edition of OM4. During installation of the product you have the option of
installing either "standard" or "extended" editions. The latter is the appropriate choice for computers with a reasonable
amount of extended memory. If you are running Windows 95 or 98, you must have a good deal of extended memory, so
this is the edition you should be using.
2.To determine which edition you are using, check the size of the OM.EXE file in the \OM folder. The extended OM.EXE
is approximately 1,200,000 bytes. The standard is approximately 350,000 bytes. If you do not have the extended edition
installed, re-install from your most recent OM4 diskettes or by running the INSTALL program in the \OMDOS folder of
the OMWin CD. When the menu appears, select option 3, "Non-standard installation". On the next menu, select option
4, "Install Extended Program". This will replace the standard program files with the extended files.
3.Even the extended edition requires a decent amount of conventional memory when running insurance and statements. For
this reason, we recommend that you include the following lines in your CONFIG.SYS file. To edit this file, select Start >
Run, then type SYSEDIT and click OK. A large window containing several smaller windows will open. The
CONFIG.SYS file is the second window. Click on the title bar for that window to bring it to the front. Add lines or
modify existing entries so that all of the following appear, in this order:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DOS=HIGH
DOS=UMB
FILESHIGH=255
The last line replaces any "FILES=" line that may already be present.
4.After making any necessary additions or changes, click FILE > SAVE, then FILE > EXIT on SysEdit's main menu. You
must restart Windows for these changes to take effect.
5.If the above changes do not correct the problem, then you should check the properties of the desktop shortcut icon you
use to start OM4. Move the pointer on top of the icon, then RIGHT-click to pop up the menu for the icon. Left-click
"Properties", then select the "Memory" tab. All entries should be set to AUTO except for "Environment" which should be
reset to 1024. Click OK to save.
